Working of Acivir Cream

Acivir cream contains Acyclovir, which belongs to a class of antiviral medications called Synthetic Nucleoside Analogs.

It functions by stopping the growth of the herpes virus.

Acyclovir inhibits herpesvirus DNA polymerase specifically.

This enzyme is essential for the replication of herpesviruses during the lytic phase of infection.

How to apply Acivir Cream

• Before and after the use of this medicine, wash your hands with soap and water
• Before putting on the medicine, clean and dry the affected area
• Apply the medicine to the sore and rub it in gently 6 times each day (every 3 to 4 hours) for at least 4 days, or as your doctor recommends
• Apply enough cream to cover all the sores and areas that are red, tingling, or burning
• Only use on skin. Do not put this medicine in your eyes, nose, mouth, or genital area. If you do get medicine in those places, use a lot of water to wash it
• Your dose will depend on your health, the type of infection, and how well you respond to treatment
• Don't take a bath, shower, or swim right after applying the medicine so that it doesn't get washed away

Missed dose

• Use the dose you forgot as soon as you recall
• But if your next dose is approaching, skip the one you missed and keep using your medicine as usual
• Do not put on more cream to compensate for the missed dose

Overdose

Do not use more than recommended. However, consult your doctor in case of an overdose.
