Even addiction to alcohol, smoking or even drug abuse could lead to sexual disorders. Some medications like antidepressants can also affect sexual desire and function.

Psychological factors can also affect one’s sex drive. Issues like stress and anxiety, depression, guilt, or some past sexual trauma can cause sexual disorders. Even concerns about sexual performance and even marital problems, or problems in your relationship can also result in sexual dysfunction.

Female Sexual Dysfunction Symptoms and Types

There are different female sexual dysfunction symptoms that can affect women. The first is low sexual desire. This is the most common of all female sexual disorders that affect women. It involves a lack of interest in having sexual intercourse and little to no willingness to be sexual. Hormonal changes or medical conditions and certain treatments could be the cause for this condition. Sometimes, even boredom with the same sexual routine can also be the cause for reduced libido. Even lifestyle factors like careers and having children can contribute to lessened enthusiasm for having sex.

The other is sexual arousal disorder. They may sound like the same thing but they are not. In this situation, your desire to engage in sexual intercourse may be intact, however, you will find it difficult to become aroused or remain aroused throughout the sexual activity.  For women, this also involves insufficient vaginal lubrication during sexual activity. This inability could be related to stress but could also be because of insufficient stimulation. Scientists are also studying whether problems in blood flow that affect the vagina and clitoris could be the cause for the inability to be aroused.  

The third sexual disorder that a woman may face is an orgasmic disorder, also called anorgasmia. In this situation, you may have persistent and recurring difficulty in achieving orgasm even after sufficient arousal and continuous stimulation. It can be caused by a woman’s inexperience and lack of knowledge as well. Psychological factors such as guilt, anxiety or even sexual trauma could lead to this disorder. Chronic diseases could also be the cause of anorgasmia.

There is another form of sexual dysfunction that females may experience. It is called sexual pain disorder. You will know you have this disorder if you experience pain when there is contact with your vagina and during sexual stimulation. There could be physical conditions like ovarian cysts, presence of scar tissue after surgery, vaginitis, endometriosis, or even sexually transmitted diseases that could cause sexual pain.

There is a condition called vaginismus, which is a psychological condition in which a woman may think that penetration is painful or may also stem from sexual phobia from past trauma. Women who have this experience a painful and involuntary spasm of the muscles that surround the vaginal entrance.

Female Sexual  Dysfunction Treatment

There are different types of treatments present to cure female sexual dysfunction. One of which is Hormone replacement therapy. This therapy is aimed at restoring one’s hormone levels which can be affected by a number of factors like age, surgery hormone dysfunction. This therapy restores it to a normal level.

Another is Vascular Treatment. Medical conditions that caused a diminished amount of blood to flow to the reproductive organs need to be treated in order to improve sexual function. However, for women who do not suffer from such conditions, it has been found that nonprescription creams and gels like Sensual Or Viagel can assist in achieving an orgasm.
